Defending champions Kenya Police are wary of perennial rivals Kenya Defence Force (KDF) when the National Boxing League punches off in Mombasa.

Kenya Police wrestled the title from KDF last year and top action is expected when the first leg starts at the Modern Fitness Boxing Lounge, Mombasa on April 14-16.

Kenya Police were declared the overall winner of the National Boxing League on November 28 last year during the fifth and final leg at the Madison Square Garden in Nakuru.
Police squad better known as “Chafua Chafua” collected 105 points with KDF coming second with 96 while Kenya Prisons had 29 points for the third slot.

Others were Coast (28), Kenyatta National Hospital (18), Kentrack (13), Central (8), Nakuru (8), Kisumu Combine (6), Kibera (4), Metro (3), Oksa (3), Jericho (3), and Eastern (1).

Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) President John Kameta said yesterday that there would be a major clean-up at Kongowea Market, Mombasa a day before the kickoff of the league by all the participating teams.

Kameta said Sportpesa are the official sponsors of the league after they pumped in Sh20 million for the league. “We expect to tap dozens of talent at the end of the league,” said Kameta.
