Boxing star Conor McGregor risks 11-year jail sentence

Conor McGregor has broken his silence on social media with a cryptic message, three days after he was released on bail.

The Irishman has been silent since he was arrested and charged following an attack on a bus carrying fighters in New York.

His teammate Dillon Danis paid the $50,000 bond following a brief court appearance.

On Monday McGregor posted a picture of himself leaving court with a praying emoji, as if asking for divine intervention.

But within half an hour, he had deleted the post.

The 29-year-old could face 11 years in prison according to New York's sentencing guidelines.

The former two-weight world champion will return to the city on June 14 for his next hearing.

McGregor was charged with assault and criminal mischief with the former charge carrying a year's prison sentence if he is found guilty.

But the second charge is considered far more serious and could carry a much a longer term.

The Irishman and his entourage headed for the loading bay at the Barclays Centre where several fighters were leaving in a bus following a media day.

The 29-year-old attempted to throw a railing at the bus and then smashed a window with a trolley before fleeing the scene and jumping into a waiting car.

Two fighters were injured in the attack as Michael Chiesa suffered cuts to his face from the smashing.

Two days after the incident, Nurmagomedov beat Al Iaquinta to win McGregor's former lightweight belt at UFC 223.
