UoN Dynamites, Eldonets make light work of their opponents

University of Nairobi (UoN) Dynamites on Saturday edged out African Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers in a Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Women's Premier League match played at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Dynamites held the nerve to force a narrow 58-55 victory against Panthers who were chasing their first victory this season.
The match was evenly contested with Dynamites who are struggling to recover their form of yesteryears taking a 15-12 lead. Keen to make their outing count, the Panthers would control the second period to sink 16 points against Dynamites 13 to draw level at halftime.
On resumption, Dynamites fought harder but Panthers remained steady marching them in all units. They, however managed to take the third quarter 12-10 before sealing the victory 18-17 in the final period.
Jane Kemunto was the star of the match with an impressive 25 points for Dynamites while Brazeal Waswa led Panthers with 15 points.
This was Dynamites second win from four outings whereas it was Panthers fourth straight loss. Panthers will continue with their hunt for first win today when they take on in-form Strathmore University Swords.
In Eldoret, Eldonets Ladies recovered from a string of losses to beat Safe Spaces 70-55 and register their second win of the season.
Syliviah Masese anchored the hosts to victory with 20 points while Linet Atieno top scored for the visitors with 18.
Tired of losing at their own backyard, Eldonets showed their hunger for victory from the onset even as their opponents also pushed themselves in offence and defence.
The Eldonets quintet of Masese, Shilla Magot, Leah Nasambu, Nicole Akinyi and Joy Cherono would ensure that they forced a 16-12 first quarter advantage.
There was no looking back for Eldonets, who had not won any match in 2025 after suffering two defeats at home to Th3 Swish and former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). They intensified their efforts in the second quarter to score 25 points against Safe Spaces' 16 for a 41-28 lead going into the breather.
Stacey Bonareri, Michelle Chepkemoi and Julie Bosire would consolidate their teammates efforts to kill the game in the third period as they stretched the gap to 20 points to make it impossible for Safe Spaces to salvage the match.
Safe Spaces controlled the fourth quarter scoring 14 points against Eldonets nine but it was a little too late as they suffered their sixth loss.
In the Men's Premier League title chase, former champions KPA Beat United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) Tigers 68-47 to maintain their good run.
