Dockers drown hapless Stanbic Aces

Former Kenya Basketball Federation Women's Premier League champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) routed Stanbic Aces 91-44 in a league match played on Saturday at Nyayo Gymnasium.

The dockers, who are seeking to reclaim the title they lost to Equity Bank Hawks last season, were no match for their Nairobi hosts who seemed to have surrendered to their fate from the onset.

The victory saw the coastal side make four wins out of four outings. Ivorian star Alima Doumbia anchored KPA to victory with 22 points with her Congolese counterpart Grace Irebu adding 16.

Cylia Atieno and Sharon Ogaji top scored for Stanbic Aces with 15 and 13 points but their effort was not good enough to save their side from the victory hungry dockers. KPA dominated the game from the onset taking the first period 21-11.

A brilliant second quarter show from Doumbia, Irebu and Malian Aminata Samassekou would see KPA sink points at will to take an unassailable 53-18 lead as their opponents struggled to keep up with the pace. KPA's 35 points half-time advantage crashed Stanbic Aces hopes of recovering forcing them to play defensively in the third and fourth quarters.

KPA picked up from where they left taking the third quarter 21-13 before slowing down in the final period to score 17 points against Stanbic Aces' 13 to seal their fourth win. Today, the dockers will take on Th3 Swish in their fifth tie of the season with a victory cementing their place at the top of the table.

In a Women's Division One League, Kenyatta University (KU) Oryx beat Swifts 60-45 to enhance their chances of sealing a playoffs slot. KU Oryx to a 25-20 half-time lead before dominating the second half to score 39 points against Swifts' 25 to grab the victory.
