National boys basketball champions Dr Aggrey School from Taita Taveta County in Coast region has one dream to achieve this year-to win the East Africa Secondary Schools title.

The school that made history in its maiden appearance to lift the national crown last year in Nakuru has set eyes for the regional title when the games are held in August.

The 2023 edition of the Federation of the East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games will take place in Burundi, but Rwanda would be on standby to host should Burundi be unable to host.

However, despite their focus on the regional title, Dr Aggrey basketball coach Kevin Maima has urged his boys to put their recent Taita Taveta County title triumph behind them. They won the title for the second year running last weekend.

"We are now focusing on three major titles. The Coast region, national and East Africa titles," said the youthful coach who previously handled Kaya Tiwi team of Kwale County.

"We are done with Taita Taveta county games and we have to put the win in the archives and focus on the three major titles ahead of us."

The coach said they will respect all their opponents when the Coast Regional Term One games start from next Wednesday to Saturday at Kwale High and Kwale Seminars School.

However, it will not be a walk in the park for Dr Aggrey as they have been drawn in a tough group B alongside Kaya Tiwi, Chanagande of Kilifi and Mombasa representatives.

Group A has Mpeketoni from Lamu, Timbila from Taita Taveta, Shimba Hills of Kwale and Tana River representatives.

Meanwhile, national girl's basketball champions Kaya Tiwi School believe the basketball clinic conducted by the visiting American under 17 boys basketball team, Mountain Stars from Utah, USA was an added advantage as they prepare for next week's Coast region games.
