Former champions Ulinzi Warriors moved joint top in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Premier League standings alongside Equity Bank Dumas after thrashing Kenyatta University (KU) Pirates 91-70 in a match played at Nyayo Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Soldiers dropped to fourth place on 18 points last weekend when they were not in action as Equity Dumas and Nairobi City Thunder won their matches to occupy the top three spots alongside defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

However, Warriors have now moved joint top at the standings with the bankers on 20 points.

KPA drop to third spot on 19 points with one match at hand. Thunder also has 19 points but having played 11 matches.

Ulinzi have played 11 matches, won nine and lost two while Pirates have 11 points from eight games played so far, winning three and losing five.

The soldiers won the first quarter 34-16 before losing the second quarter 15-18 to establish a lead of 49-34 at halftime.

In the final half, the students fought back to win the third quarter 23-17 but they were overpowered by the Warriors who won 25-13 in the last quarter.

Action resumes on Sunday when Zetech Titans will be entertained by Strathmore Blades in the as Pirates seek redemption against University of Nairobi Terror.
