KPA and Equity extend their good run in Fiba tourney

Kenya Ports Authority and Equity Bank won their fourth matches of the Fiba Africa Zone V Women Club basketball championships in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The two sides were to play their final match in the tournament last evening at the National Indoor Stadium.

KPA dismissed Burundi’s Gladiators 83-40 while Equity Bank saw off Tanzania’s Don Bosco 76-36.

Coached by Anthony Ojukwu, KPA took a comfortable 45-30 lead at the breather after winning the first quarter 25-10 and went ahead to tie 20-20 in the second quarter.  

The dockers extended the lead in the third quarter after taking a huge 21-2 lead before wrapping up the victory with a 14-8 win in the fourth quarter.

Claire Lamunu continued with her splendid show after bagging 26 points to emerge as the top scorer while betty Kalanga pumped in 11 points.

Vilma Owino and Victoria Reynolds had 10 points each. The Burundian side, which is coached by Claude Kantole, had Else Niyomkuru as the top scorer with nine points while Anny Ingiraneza and Divine Irakoze tied on eight points each.

Equity Bank showed little respect to their Tanzanian opponents, who are coached by Evarist Mapunda.

Noela Uwandameno was the top scorer with 12 points while Tumwangile Mwapola had six points.
