After two failed attempts, Zetech University women’s basketball coach Maurice Obilo is confident his charges have come of age and are yearning for improved performance.

Obilo says it has been a learning journey that has seen the girls improve since making their first appearance in the Kenya Basketball Federation women’s Premier League in 2017.

“This is our third season in the Premier League and the girls have shown growth and desire to perform better. They are determined to improve because we always aim higher and our target this year is to go beyond the quarters,” Obilo said.

Zetech also known as Sparks lock horns with University of Nairobi’s Dynamites in game one of the 2019 season quarter-finals play-offs at Nyayo Gymnasium tomorrow.

A buoyant Obilo added that his charges were looking to improve on last year’s performance when they lost 2-1 to Strathmore University Swords in the quarters.

He, however, said that for them to achieve that goal they must be at their best.

“We have to up our game because Dynamites are not an easy side to beat, going into the match we are even because we beat them in the first leg and they won the second round.

“Being a best of three contest game one victory is very crucial.”

Obilo will count on the brilliance of Maureen Bosibori, Naomi Bosibori, Lucy Mbithe, Everline Nabwire and Teresa Oloo who have been instrumental in the regular campaign.

They finished fifth with 35 points two less than Dynamites who finished fourth.

Dynamites, on the other hand, will bank on the services of Faith Atieno, Valarie Kemunto, Elizabeth Okumu as well as Trizah Okeyo.

In another women’s encounter, defending champions Equity Bank Hawks take on Tangit Sparks tomorrow.

Having lost the FIBA Zone Five women’s title last month, Hawks will have everything to play for as they seek to defend the league title.

Kenya Ports Authority face Eagle Wings in another play-offs tie.
