Kwale Girls and Kaya Tiwi shine in Matuga

East Africa football defending champions Kwale Girls and Kaya Tiwi School yesterday qualified for the Kwale County championships after dominating the Matuga sub-county secondary schools' term two games.

Kwale Girls and Kaya Tiwi won the semi-final matches in girls under-16 to qualify for Kwale County games that gets underway at Samburu School from Thursday to Saturday.

The two schools qualified for the county games as each sub-county will be represented by two teams in each discipline.

Kwale Girls staged good shows in the under-19 preliminary matches as they beat Ambassador Mwakwere Girls 18-0, before drubbing newcomers Kichakasimba School 10-0 and then rolling over Matuga Girls with a 17-0 rout. They were to play Waa Girls in the under-19 final.

Kaya Tiwi qualified for the boys' under-19 and under-16 finals. In the under-16, Kaya Tiwi were to play Kwale High in the final, while in the under-19 final,  Kaya Tiwi were to face Shimba Hills.

Catherine Aringo, who represented her Likoni Queens Club at the Laliga All Stars in Spain, anchored Kwale Girls to victory.

Arigo, 16, a Form Three student, said her dream is to play for the women’s national team, Harambee Starlets.

“I played in the Safaricom Chapa Dimba All Stars in La Liga and I believe the experience I picked will be helpful. My dream is to play for Harambee Starlets,” said Aringo.

In netball, national champions Kaya Tiwi won all their matches to qualify for the county games.

In Msambweni sub-county games, Babla won in netball, while the girls' under 16 titles to Ramisi. Gombato qualifying for the boys' under-16 final.
