Kenya's men and women 3x3 basketball teams progressed to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Commonwealth Games currently going on in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.

Despite registering mixed results since their debut on Friday last week, the Kenyan teams made it through to the knockout stages.

On Sunday, Kenyan men lost narrowly to Scotland 15-14 in their final pool match as their female counterparts went down 21-17 to the Scottish women.

Despite the defeat, Kenyan men will face off against Australia today (Monday) from 7pm East African Time.

The women's team is on the other and will play England from 7.30pm local time.

Kenya had mixed fortunes as they made their debut at the Commonwealth Games.

The men team made a good start on Friday night after beating pre-match favourites Sri Lanka, but the women team lost the opener to Australia.

Kenyan men are pooled in group A alongside Canada, Sri Lanka and Scotland.

Coached by Zadock Adika, the Kenyan men's team that comprised of Larry Shavanga, John Wijass, Darril Omondi and Faheem Juma defeated Sri Lanka 21-18 but lost narrowly in the second match 15-12 to Canada.

In the women category, Kenya recovered from an opening 21-15 loss to Australia to beat Sri Lanka 21-18 in their second match.

The team had towering Melissa Akinyi, Victoria Ronalds, Hilda Indasi and Madina Okot and is under coach Eunice Ouma.
