Nyanza region basketball champs Agoro Sare High School and Vihiga champions Tigoi Girls are the 2020 Biro Lich High School basketball champions.

Homa Bay County giants Agoro Sare thrashed Friend School Kamusinga 73-27 at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground to successfully defend the title they won last year at the same grounds.

The win left Agoro head coach Paul Odok a happy man as they turn their focus on the upcoming term one school games.

“Congratulations to the players for stepping up their game in every match we played in the two days we have been in Kisumu. The victory is a booster to the players as they turn their focus for the upcoming school games,” he said.

Agoro’s Emmanuel Akol was voted the Most Valuable Player as Kevin Mwangi from Kamusinga bagged the three-point shooter award.

Enroute to the finals, Agoro Sare knocked out Oriwo High School in the semis as Kamusing saw off Ngere High School to reach the finals.

In the girl’s category, Tigoi Girls also defended their title after defeating Barchando Girls 32-20 in what was a repeat of last year’s finals.

Verol Akinyi of Tigoi was voted the Most Valuable Player as her teammate Sheryl Lmeld won in the three point shooting category.

According to the tournaments Organizing Secretary Brian Lusaga, through partnership with Pacho 360 Hoops who were the main organisers of the event, scholarship programmes will be offered to students who exhibit exemplary performance during the tournament.

“We are aiming at using this annual event to offer opportunities to needy students who are outstanding in sports to be selected for scholarships by different sponsors of the event.

“This year, a total of 10 students have been offered scholarships in different secondary schools by sponsors of the event which shows a great progress,” Lusaga said.

Other sponsors include Safari Link Aviation, Homeland Events, Kiscens Sports, Willy's Lounge and Kisumu County Government.
