Kibiwott Kandie provisionally suspended for breaking anti-doping rules

Kibiwott Kandie, once celebrated as the world half-marathon record holder, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) due to a violation of anti-doping regulations.

The AIU has charged the 28-year-old with "evading, refusing, or failing to submit to sample collection..."

Kandie, who claimed the world record with a stunning time of 57:32 in Valencia back in 2020, now finds himself amid serious allegations of evading drug testing protocols.

In his illustrious career, Kandie not only set records but also secured silver at the 2020 World Half-Marathon Championships and achieved notable victories in cities such as Prague, Istanbul, and Ras al Khaimah.

At the beginning of this year, he kicked off his season with a victory at the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Cross Country Championships 10KM race.

He also played a vital role in leading the Kenyan team to gold in the senior men's race at the World Cross Country Championships held in Bathurst in 2023.
