Kibiwott Kandie, once celebrated as the world half-marathon record holder, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) due to a violation of anti-doping regulations.
The AIU has charged the 28-year-old with "evading, refusing, or failing to submit to sample collection..."
Kandie, who claimed the world record with a stunning time of 57:32 in Valencia back in 2020, now finds himself amid serious allegations of evading drug testing protocols.
In his illustrious career, Kandie not only set records but also secured silver at the 2020 World Half-Marathon Championships and achieved notable victories in cities such as Prague, Istanbul, and Ras al Khaimah.
At the beginning of this year, he kicked off his season with a victory at the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Cross Country Championships 10KM race.
He also played a vital role in leading the Kenyan team to gold in the senior men's race at the World Cross Country Championships held in Bathurst in 2023.
A roadmap to the 2026 Eldoret City Marathon has been drawn as the City of Champions gets set for what is expected to be another thrilling contest in April.
Intense battles are expected when the Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Term One begin on Wednesday at Maseno School, with draws placing traditional giants against each other.
Local drivers could not master the extensive challenges that ranged from heavy rains, mechanical challenges, time barred, inferior racing machines and lack of substantial sponsorships.
