Triple-Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Education by the University of Eldoret, acknowledging her unparalleled contributions to athletics and her inspiring journey as one of the world's best middle-distance runners.

The prestigious degree was conferred during the university's 13th graduation ceremony on November 21, 2024.

The University of Eldoret recognized Kipyegon's extraordinary achievements, particularly her dominance in the 1,500 meters. These include three Olympic gold medals in the 1,500m, three world records, and a series of remarkable victories at international events.

Kipyegon's accolades in 2024 added another historic chapter to her career. She became the first athlete to win three Olympic gold medals in the 1,500m, further solidifying her place among the greatest athletes in history. In addition, she broke world records in the 1,500m and the Mile in just 49 days during the 2023 season.

In a statement shared by the University, it was noted: "Ms. Kipyegon is an accomplished middle and long-distance runner and is the reigning 1,500 meter and Mile World Record holder. Her most notable feat was becoming the first athlete to secure three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the women's 1500m race."

During her acceptance speech, Kipyegon expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, calling the moment "humbling." She is now the first female recipient of an honorary degree from the University of Eldoret. "I am truly grateful for this recognition," Kipyegon said. "This award is something I will forever cherish."

The honorary doctorate places Kipyegon alongside other renowned Kenyan athletes, such as Eliud Kipchoge, Paul Tergat, and Kipchoge Keino, who have been similarly honoured for their athletic accomplishments.

The 30-year-old Kipyegon, who has been an icon of consistency since her breakthrough at the 2011 World Cross Country Championships, shared a moving reflection on her journey. "I know many of you can resonate with running to school barefoot during our childhood. Transitioning from that to a professional athlete I am today takes discipline and determination," she said.

Beyond her athletic prowess, Kipyegon continues to inspire. In September 2024, she was awarded the Golden Plate by the Academy of Achievers in the U.S., in recognition of her Olympic success. Her achievements also earned her a nomination for the 2024 World Athlete of the Year Award.

As a mother and a role model, Kipyegon credits her success to the unwavering support from her family, the Kenyan people, and her global fan base.
