Athletics Kenya (AK) Chief Administrative Officer Susan Kamau has urged all Kenyan athletes to register with the national body for a pension scheme.

She made the remarks on the opening day of a two-day coaching seminar for Central Kenya athletics' coaches that kicked off at the AK regional offices in Nyeri County yesterday.

While reiterating AK's desire to cushion retired athletes from the financial woes occasioned by ailment and old age, Kamau cited numerous incidents where athletes faced difficulties upon retirement.

"We have signed with CPF to address athletes' pension schemes. Coaches should encourage athletes to join the scheme. Next will be the coaches and then the officials," Kamau said.

To curb cases of double signing, the administrator emphasised the need for coaches to guide their athletes through the entire process.

She said in cases whereby athletes are found to have signed more than one contract, AK will recognise the one that was signed first.

"We are in the process of registering managers.
