Beatrice Chebet gave Kenya's sixth gold medal after sprinting to victory in the women's 5000m finals at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom on Sunday evening.

Selah Busienei ensured Kenya will go back home with two medals in the 12 laps race after claiming bronze in a packed Alexandria Stadium.

Chebet clocked a Seasonal Best time of 14 minutes and 38.21 seconds to win gold ahead of 10000m champion Eilish McColgan.

The Scottish International who made history two days ago in the 24 laps race could not deny Kenyans glory this time round after only securing silver in Birmingham.

Busienei claimed bronze in a Personal Best time of 14. 48.24.

In the race, McColgan and the Kenyan duo tore the field apart with four laps left to go with Kenya and Scotland all hoping to win hold.

After a tactical plan that failed Kenya in the men's 5000m and women's 10000m finals, Chebet and Busienei had other ideas this time round.

Busienei took the bell leading through the opening 200m that tired McColgan before Chebet kicked her sprinting charge in the final 200m.

The Scott had no answer to Chebet's pace the best she could manage is a second-place finish.
