Mandago says Uasin Gishu will continue sponsoring Eldoret Marathon

Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago, who is the patron of the Eldoret City Marathon, yesterday promised to hand over the race’s sponsorship to the next governor.
Mandago who is the race patron said he will also pass the position to a new governor, after the general elections in August.
The governor urged the incoming governor to prioritise climate action and work towards mitigating its effects through the green marathon, as he did.
Mandago thanked the race’s sponsors and partners who have worked with the marathon’s Local Organising Committee for the last four years.
“This marathon will live beyond my term in office, and I am looking forward to handing it over. This marathon will be part and parcel of the culture of this county, and we want to see it grow,” Mandago said.
Uasin Gishu County Women Representative Gladys Shollei said that she will champion for a Ministry dedicated to sports only and establishment of proper sports academies aligned to schools so that children can train and simultaneously get education.
“We want to have a ministry dedicated to sports and departments will be different sports. I will also champion for pension for sportspeople,” Shollei said.
Standard Group PLC CEO Orlando Lyomu said the company which has been a partner of the Eldoret City marathon since its inception in 2018 will continue championing the main objective of the green marathon.
“I believe that what the marathon champions, which is the climate change action, is very noble and as a media group one of our pillars is environmental conservation and sustainability which aligns well with the aim of the marathon,” said Lyomu.
He assured the organising committee that the company will continue to support the good initiative even in the years to come, challenging the committee to expand the marathon to make it international.
