Nakuru lift overall title at Rift Valley regional Police meeting

Nakuru County athletes head to Kasarani for the National Police Athletics Championships next week with confidence after winning the Rift Valley regional title on Friday.
Nakuru County amassed a total of 10 gold, seven silver and three bronze medals to win the overall title as the curtains came down on the two-day competition that attracted 14 counties at Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology.
Uasin Gishu was second with six gold, two silver and six bronze, Laikipia won four gold, two silver and two bronze, Elgeyo Marakwet three gold and one silver, Baringo two gold, one silver and one bronze and Trans-Nzoia one gold and one silver medals.
100m national champion Millicent Ndoro of Nairobi clocked 11.7secs to win the race ahead of Edna Moraa of Nandi in 14.1 secs and Faith Makena also of Nandi in 15.5secs.
Ndoro said she is ready for the National Championships that should catapult her into the national squad that will take part in the Commonwealth Games slated for Birmingham, England in July/August.
“This will assist in my preparation for the Commonwealth Games selection trials and I’m determined to make that team,” Ndoro said.

While awarding prizes to the winners, Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Tom Odero promised total support for the athletes to emerge victorious at the national meeting.
“We are here to offer total support for you to ensure we emerge victorious at the end of the National Championships,” Odero told said.
During the regional championships, Mary Osida of Trans-Nzoia was awarded the prize for the Youngest Female Athlete and Felix Naibei of Nakuru the Youngest Male Athlete.
At 42 years, Elizabeth Chelagat of Uasin Gishu emerged the Oldest Female Athlete while Kiboiboi Chirchir of Turkana emerged as the Oldest Male Athlete at 48 years.
