Olympian Douglas Wakiihuri is among the legends who are set to participate in the Mombasa Run slated for November 20-21.

According to the event organisers, the 1987 World Championships gold medallist in 42km marathon in Rome will lead several Kenya legends and upcoming runners to participate in the race that is meant to showcase the beauty of Mombasa city and raise money for charitable organisations.

According to Younes Iraki, Chief Executive Officer of Action Marketing Plus, the event has attracted runners from Kwale, Kilifi, Nairobi, Eldoret and Mombasa.

Having held the first run in Nairobi, Iraki said plans are underway for other races to be staged in Kisumu, Eldoret and Machakos.

“Mombasa Run is set for great success. We already have thousands of followers eager for the run. Building on our successful Nairobi Run, we have several run groups of Nairobi planning to travel and engage with the running community of Mombasa,” said Iraki.

The event coordinator confirmed the support of Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and Mombasa County Government as runners prepare to discover and explore historical sites in Mombasa.
