World champion Timothy Cheruiyot on Thursday defeated Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen to win the men's 1500m Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland.

Cheruiyot emerged first with a time of 3:31.37 as Ingebrigtsen took second place with 3:31:45.

It was almost playing into the hand of Ingebrigtsen like in Tokyo but the world champion would shrug off pressure from the Olympic Champion to win in the final 100m stretch.

The win saw Cheruiyot avenge his Olympic loss to the Norwegian where Ingebrigtsen ran an Olympic record of 3: 28.32.

The other Kenyans in the roster, Kwemoi and Simotwo finished sixth and seventh respectively with Kwemoi running a Season Best of 3:33.34.
