New Gor Mahia head coach Mark Harrison on Wednesday made a winning start after guiding the defending champions to a narrow 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz in a tight midweek FKF Premier League match played at Thika Stadium.

Harrison, 60, was unveiled on Monday as the new K’Ogalo coach to fill up the gap left by Portuguese tactician Manuel Vaz Pinto who parted ways with the club recently on mutual consent.

After overseeing Gor as they played AFC Leopards in a friendly match at Camp Toyoyo last weekend, the Englishman took charge of the defending champions for the first time officially at Thika.

Expected to turn around the misfortunes crumbling the mighty Gor on the pitch, the former English Premier League player (Southampton and Stoke City) indeed started his tenure with a win just as he had promised.

Sydney Ochieng scored the winner as the record Kenyan champions ended a seven-match winless streak.

In Ruaraka, Sofapaka ended their five match winless run after narrowly edging out Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in a tight match that witnessed a red card.

Kevin Juma was given his marching order in the 74th minute after receiving his second yellow card of the match.

Cornelius Juma had given the 2009 champions the lead in the 48th minute after a goalless opening half, a goal that stood till full time and granting Sofapaka all the maximum points.
