Track and field athletes hoping to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games will know the national trials venue on Tuesday.

This follows inspection of the suitability of Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret by the Athletics Kenya (AK) officials yesterday.

The stadium which is currently under construction raising questions on its suitability to host the national event successfully staged the trials for Rio Olympics in 2016.

According to AK president Jack Tuwei, who led other officials in inspecting the facility, said they will announce the venue for trials to be held in a month’s time on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Barnabas Korir and Abraham Hussein among other officials.

“We have inspected the track, the field, warm up area, changing rooms, the showers among other facilities and seen their suitability to host the trials.  We shall sit and discuss about suitability of the facilities to host the event before announcing the venue,” said Tuwei.

“It is very important for the athletes, coaches, logisticians, planners and administrators to know the venue in good time. This will give them time to adequately prepare for the trials.”

He stated the trials will only be for those who have met the anti-doping and events qualifications.

“Any athlete who have met the two qualifications will be invited. Already over 90 athletes have met the qualification.
