Kenya Sevens have been knocked out of the Emirates Dubai Invitational Sevens Tournament Main Cup after losing to Chile in the quarterfinals played on Friday morning at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai.

Chile shocked Kenya 14-12 to sail through to the semifinals as Kenya dropped to the Plate Cup semifinals.

In the match, Daniel Taabu gave Kenya a 5-0 lead after Tony Omondi missed to convert the twos before Chile took a narrow 7-5 lead into the break.

Chile compounded Shujaa’s worries further after stretching the lead to 14-5 before Alvin Otieno scored Kenya’s second try late on.

Shujaa’s attempt to win the game was thwarted by a solid Chilean defense who stood tall, holding on for a crucial win which saw them book a semifinal match with Argentina.

Meanwhile, Kenya 7s will face Spain for the second time after their group match meeting in the fifth semi-finals.

In the other quarterfinals, Uganda were also knocked out by France with the latter winning 33-7 as Canada saw off Japan 29-12. Argentina on the other side knocked out 24-12.

In the Women’s category, Kenya Lionesses lost 15-12 to Brazil, stretching their winless run to four matches.
