Kenya's Rhonex Kipruto has broken the 10km World marathon record formerly held by Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei in 26:23 in Valencia, according to the World Athletics.

Kipruto also made a half-way split of 13 minutes and 18 seconds improvement for 5KM world record.

Kenya also took the second position in the World Athletics Gold Label road race with Benard Kimeli clocking 27:12, one second just ahead of Switzerland's Julien Wanders, who set a European record of 27:13.

Elsewhere, Sheila Chepkirui broke the Women's 10km world marathon record in a time of 29:42 consolidating her position as the second fastest woman of all time, according to the World Athletics.

This is the first time a 10km race on the road has happened under 30 minutes, which takes Chepkirui performance 11 seconds off the PB she set in Prague last year.

Kenya dominated the women category with Rosemary Wanjiru and steeplechase specialist Norah Jeruto both clocking 29:51 to take second and third respectively.
