Mkungo targets Madoka half marathon title

Philadelphia and Miani half marathon champion Panuel Mkunga targets a win at the Madoka half marathon  Ngerenyi in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta, on Saturday.

More than 1,000 runners are expected to participate in the race, which will also be used to mark Mashujaa day celebrations.

Winners will receive Sh500, 000 in men’s and women’s races while first and second runners-ups will get Sh250,000 and Sh 100,000 respectively. The event also features five other categories in 12km for juniors, 8km for men and women aged over 45 and 35 years respectively, 6km for boys below 12 years and 6km for girls aged below 12 years.

Marsden Madoka, the race founder, said: “Since its inception 13 years ago, this race has grown and now attracts many athletes from across the country and the East Africa region. Our main aim is to promote athletics in the coast region.”

Isaac Kipkoech and Vienna City Marathon winner Nancy Kiprop, who won the 12th edition of the Safaricom Madoka Half Marathon last year, will defend their titles.
