Katui Muia from Makueni County clocked 30:28:83 to win 10km Kenya Pipeline Thange Cross Country at Makueni Primary School, yesterday.

John Maweu finished second in 30:31:00, while Stephen Mwendwa was third in 30:42:85.

In women’s category, Eunice Mumbua also from Makueni County, won in 26:01:70 during the 8km race. Sharon Muriuki from Machakos clocked 26:15:34 to finish second, while Florence Nduku was third in 26:17:99.

Meanwhile, Meshack Munguti clocked 22:54:44 to win the 8km race, while Bernard Musau was second in 26:56:03. Jackson Muema, in 23:17:73, finished third.

Mumbua said she was glad after winning in the 8km race.

“The race was good and the rainy weather was favourable to me,” she said. “It was tight, but my competitors were not as fast. Endurance was also an issue, but I am glad.”

On his part, Muia said he had challenges since the field was slippery because of the rains.

“I could have given my counterparts a faster pace, but the rains have let me down,” he said. “My next plan is to train and prepare for the national cross country, which will be held in Machakos County.”

The event is part of the sports activities being organized by the Kenya Pipeline Company across the country.

The Kenya pipeline Company managing director Joe sang said his company plays a critical role in the oil and gas sector in Kenya and its relationship with key stakeholders is quite important.

“This is why our CSR policy focuses on sports and youth empowerment programs that have the potential to transform lives,” he said.
