World champion Faith Kipyegon on Saturday night retained the 1,500m Diamond League Trophy after clocking a meeting record at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

Undefeated this year, the Kenyan maintained that record in Eugene, extending her Pre Classic winning streak, having won there four times (2016, 2017, 2021, and 2022).

Taking on a field that included world silver medallist Diribe Welteji, Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir, Irish record-holder Ciara Mageean, talented Ethiopians Freweyni Hailu, Birke Haylom, Hirut Meshesha and Worknesh Mesele, as well as Australian duo Jess Hull and Linden Hall, Kipyegon once again showed the world she is the best of the best.

Kipyegon led from gun to tape and sprinted to the finish line to win in a Meeting record time of 3:50.72.

Her closest challenger, Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji finished second in a Personal Best time of 3:53.93 as Great Britain's Laura Muir completed the podium in 3:55.16.

Kipyegon has had a stellar season so far, setting three world records within three months and winning a double at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

She set the 1500m world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy before stunning the world with another world record in the 5000m at the Meeting in Paris, France.

Kipyegon broke the third record in 1 mile at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco.
