Chebet breaks 24-year-old women's 3000m meeting record as Kenya takes 1-2-3

World Cross Country champion Beatrice Chebet on Thursday night continued Kenya's bright show at the ongoing 2023 Diamond League after shattering a 24-year-old meeting record in the women's 3000m race in Oslo, Norway.

The Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion sets a new Personal Best (PB) with 8:25.01 to emerge victorious and lead a Kenyan sweep of 1-2-3 finish.

Gabriela Szabo of Romania held the previous meeting record of 8:27.21 set in 1999.

Former World Under-18 3000m champion Lilian Kasait Rangeruk and Margaret Chelimo finished second and third respectively.

Rangeruk who was overtaken by Chebet in the final 200m bend came in second in a personal best time of 8:25.90 with Chelimo finished in third with another season best 8:26.14 to complete a Kenyan 1-2-3 sweep.

Agnes Chebet came in seventh clocking 8:32.62 with Diamond League debutant Caroline Nyaga coming in eighth in a time of 8:34.85.

In the men's 5000m, Ethiopian and 10000m World silver medalist Yomif Kejelcha edged out Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo to win with a meeting record and world lead of 12:41.73.
