Cheruiyot floors London Marathon pacesetter Ng'eno

Elijah Cheruiyot shocked London Marathon pacesetter Ben Ng’eno to win the Eldama Ravine Half Marathon as Sharon Chelimo bagged the women’s title in Baringo over the weekend.
Ngeno, who was expecting to win the race owing to his exposure in the London Marathon, finished sixth in 1:36.41secs.
Ngeno said he was still focused on concentrating on international road races.
“Despite the loss, I’m still determined to participate in international road races abroad as I had earlier planned,” he said.
Cheruiyot, who registered 1:03.02 to beat a field of experienced runners, said the victory has prepared him for future international road races in Europe.
“The win has come at the right time as I’m preparing for some road races in Europe. It is a morale booster as I want to focus on competing abroad,” Cheruiyot told Standard Sports.

Also claiming the top prize was Chelimo of West Pokot, who triumphed in the women’s 21km race.
She clocked 1:15.55.5 to beat another clique of consistent and experienced female competitors.
The winners will each pocket Sh 250,000 once they are cleared by Anti-Doping officials.
Coming second in men 21km was Titus Mbishei of Bungoma, who returned 1:03.35 ahead of Leonard Langat of Nakuru, who ran a time of 1:03.36, Douglas Kimeu Elgeyo Marakwet’s (1:04.5) and Michael Mutai of Nakuru (1:04.45).
In the women’s 21km race, Catherine Reline of Kapsait finished second in a time of 1:13.15 ahead of Jackline Chelal of Uasin Gishu, who posted 1:13.36 to finish fourth.
Eatrice Jepkemoi of Nakuru finished fifth in 1:14.89, while Viola Chepngeno of Kericho clocked 1:14.51 to finish sixth.
In the 10km races, Kenneth Renju of Trans Nzoia and Zena Cheptoo of Nandi emerged triumphant.
Coming second in men’s race was Dennis Kipkemboi of Nakuru, who posted 30 minutes 19.99 seconds ahead of Bernard Kiplum, who registered 30:23 seconds to finish third.
In the women’s 10km, Nesuine Chepngetich finished second in 36:06.16secs, ahead of Faith Cherono of Nakuru, who had a time of 36:19.99secs.
