Kenyan half marathon world record holder hit by motorcycle, suffers head and ankle injuries

Kenyan half marathon world record holder Geoffrey Kamworor was on Thursday taken to hospital with head and ankle injuries after a speeding motorcycle hit him from behind.
It is reported Kamworor, who is also a multiple world cross-country champion, was out for his morning walk when the incident happened.
According to Reuters, the doctor who treated Kamworor said the runner had fractured his right tibia shaft and had bruises on his head but was doing well after surgery.
World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge, who trains with Kamworor, was among the first to wish the 27 year-old a quick recovery.
“The world is full of uncertainties, one of them is what happened to my team mate and friend,” Kipchoge said.
The accident comes a week after New York Marathon was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning Kamworor will not be able to defend that title until 2021.
Following the cancellation of The New York Marathon, which was scheduled to take place on 1st of November, Kamworor took to Facebook to express his disappointment saying; ‘‘It’s sad to hear that this year’s TCS New York City Marathon is cancelled. However, we respect the decision made by the authorities. ‘’
‘’I've great memories from New York and look forward to celebrate a great marathon weekend with you all again in 2021. Stay safe and stay positive minded.’’
He is the current world half marathon record holder after winning the Copenhagen Half-Marathon in 2019 in a time of 58 minutes and one second.
Last year his biggest success came when he won the New York City Marathon.
