Hellen Obiri clocked 15.28.41 to win 5000m before doing a rare pace-making role for competitors in the 1500m during the fourth Athletics Kenya weekend meeting at Afraha Stadium, yesterday.

Obiri said her participation in the weekend meet races was meant to rate herself before she focuses her energies in the forthcoming Diamond League meeting races in Doha, Saudi Arabia and Rabat Morocco to be held in May and June.

“The time I register in the Diamond League races would determine my qualification to the Rio Olympic Games, but I am confident I would post good time,” Obiri said after the race.

She said she would skip the rest of the weekend meetings and focus on the Kenya Defence Forces Athletics Championships before the Diamond League assignments.

Coming second in the 5,000m race was Hyvin Kiyeng of Global Club in 15.52.32 ahead of Lydiah Rotich who registered 15.56.51 and Sandra Chepyego 16.14.23.

Evelyn Kadogo of Police registered 24.7secs to win the women’s 100m . In the men’s 10,000m, Jairus Birech won in 28.55.9 secs.
