The Indian Meteorological Department on Tuesday warned of continued heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in East India and parts of South Peninsular India for the next five days.
In a public health advisory, India's National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health emphasized the risks of physical exertion, direct sun exposure, and overcrowding during extreme heat, highlighting the importance of access to shade and water to mitigate heat-related illnesses.
Last week, India's eastern state of Odisha reported a sunstroke-related death and 71 heat-related illness cases.
