Biwott, Cheboi lift bronze in Hamilton Road Run

Michael Biwott and Ruth Cheboi, both of Karibu Sports Club, won bronze in the men's and women's categories at the 2022 Hamilton Boxing Day Run held in Ontario, Canada.
Biwott clocked 54:56 to settle for the third position in the men's 10 miles run (15K) behind category winner Hussein Hashi of Somalia who cruised to the tape in 53:58 as home guard Chris Angelatos settled for second place in 54:41.
Race favorite Biwott battled a hamstring injury during the contest that was held under the punishing -15-degree wind-chill weather.
Likewise, Cheboi braved the severe cold to win bronze in the hotly contested women's four miles (6K) race in 38:57.
Ella Heiss of Canada won the women's race in 38:04 and Heather Kennedy of the USA finished second in 38:22.
The Karibu Sports Club athletes were rewarded with cash prizes for their feats apart from the medals.
Karibu Sports Club is a non-profit based in Ontario that nurtures talents and inspires people of all ages to engage in sports for their good health and well-being.
"We are happy with the performance of our athletes in the Hamilton race, we are hopeful to improve our performance next year," Karibu Sports Club President Ephraim Mwaura told Standard Sports.
The historic Hamilton race first took place in 1920, this year the contest was celebrating its 100th edition.
The Canadian oldest and most storied racing tradition is now one of the greatest winter sports events in the North American nation.
