US State Department issues worldwide caution for travellers.

The US has issued an alert to its citizens around the world cautioning them about the increased risk of terrorist attacks.

In a post on X on Thursday, October 19, 2023, the US has also cautioned its citizens, alerting them to increased demonstrations, or violent actions that may provide them with a risk.

The US has urged its citizens to exercise increased vigilance and review their personal security plans when travelling or living abroad, citing recent incidents in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East as examples of the potential threats its citizens may face from terrorist groups, political violence, or civil unrest.

The caution also warns of the possibility of kidnapping, hostage-taking, cyberattacks, or insider threats from people who may have access to sensitive information or facilities.

The US citizens have consequently been asked to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which allows them to receive alerts and updates from the nearest US embassy or consulate.

The caution also advises US citizens to follow the instructions of local authorities, avoid crowds and demonstrations, and monitor local media for breaking events.
