Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has appointed his son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new Chief of Defence Forces replacing Mbasu Mbadi who has been appointed Minister of State for Trade in the new cabinet reshuffle announced Thursday, March 21.

Before his promotion, Muhoozi has been serving as his father's senior presidential advisor in charge of special operations.

Late last year, Muhoozi took to X formerly Twitter to state that he would succeed his father as the next president.

"I will be President of this country after my father. Those fighting the project are lost. MK Movement will win!" he said.

In October of the same year, the president's first son also sparked controversy after sending a series of tweets in which he threatened to invade Kenya and seize Nairobi.

"Some Kenyans fear us because they know our military is greater than theirs. Our Army can capture Nairobi in 1 week!" said Muhoozi.
