Uganda will be hosting the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit at its capital in Kampala.

The five-day summit which brings together over 120 Heads of State is scheduled to begin from January 15 to January 20.

With this year's theme being 'Deepening cooperation for shared global affluence', NAM seeks to oppose the West's unilateral approaches and actions on the global stage.

It further advocates for respect for the sovereignty, equality, and territorial integrity of all its member states.

In the event, Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni will officially be taking over from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as NAM's chair for the next two years.

This is one of the biggest global meetings Uganda is hosting after the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2007.

According to sources, Uganda was picked because of its neutrality on international issues.

Some of the countries expected to grace the event include Algeria, Afghanistan, Burundi, North Korea, Ethiopia, and Benin among others.
