Nigerian president elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been sworn into office.

The 71 year-old took the oath of office on May 29 in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, in an inauguration ceremony attended by world leaders and dignitaries.

Tinubu, who succeeds Muhammudu Buhari to become the 16th president of Nigeria, was sworn in by Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in a colorful ceremony.

The former Lagos governor was credited for helping the city state increase its revenue.

As the fifth president since the return of democracy in 1999, Tinubu will have to tackle insecurity, struggling economy and unity in his country.

In February, he won the presidential elections beating Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi who took second and third positions respectively.

Tinubu's victory is being challenged in court by his closest rivals claiming that 'the results were manipulated.

The election tribunal is expected to hear the case challenging his victory as the outcome is expected within the next six months.
