The former Manchester United defender was photographed on his mobile as he left Hotel Football - which he owns.

Neville was at the wheel of his £100,000 BMW i8 in Manchester last Wednesday afternoon.

Just days earlier, Greater Manchester Police had launched a six-week crackdown on drivers using their phones.

The campaign director of road safety charity Brake told The Sun : "Mr Neville might well be in favour if you’re an England fan but we’re no fan of his because of his reckless and selfish behaviour.

"You’re four times more likely to crash when you’re using a mobile.

"If found guilty, I doubt he’ll be too troubled by a £100 fine.

"We need to get tough on what is criminal driving.

"I hope he publicly apologises for his apparent error.

"Perhaps he’d like to talk to us about how we can promote safer driving."

The incident involving Neville comes a week after current United player Antonio Valencia uploaded a video to Instagram which showed him using his phone while driving.

The right-back smiled at the camera as he filmed his daughter Domenica, 10, singing and dancing along to Mike Posner's I Took A Pill In Ibiza and the Madonna hit, Like a Prayer.

Valencia, 31, was seen taking his eyes off the road during the clip.
