Charles Simotwo, who competed for Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), pulled a fast on a star-studded line up to win men's 1500m in an afternoon of high drama at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

Simotwo's win stood out as one of the major upsets of the day.

The shy-looking Simotwo controlled the race in the national trials even as world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot and Kamar Etyang breathed down his neck.

Simotwo won in 3:32.76 ahead of Etyang. Cheruiyot came fourth.
