Africa's forests are a treasure trove of resources, but the continent's people are not getting their fair share. This is especially true of the medicinal wealth in these forests, which is often exploited by big pharmaceutical companies without giving due credit or compensation to traditional healers. In this podcast, Dr. Doris Mutta, a Kenyan forest scientist, discusses the complex challenges and possible solutions for Africa to best utilize its forests to conserve biodiversity and achieve economic growth. She is among the key presenters at the 12th Oppenheimer Research Conference taking place in South Africa from 4 to 6 October. This podcast was produced and presented by Steve Mokaya, with support from the environmental journalism training agency, Roving Reporters, and Jive Media Africa, a science communication partner to Oppenheimer Generations Research and Conservation.
