Kilifi DG Gideon Saburi resumes works, promises to support fight against COVID-19

On Monday, COVID-19 recovered Kilifi Deputy Governor made his first public appearance since he survived the global pandemic.

Mr. Saburi was in the company of his boss Governor Amason Kingi when the two officially launched maternity and theatre wards at Bamba Health Centre in Ganze Constituency.

During the visit, Mr. Saburi took to the podium to preach hope to the residents amid the global outbreak. He also congratulated the Kilifi County management over the efforts to tame the disease.

"I am going to support the fight against the spread of the virus to ensure the county remains COVID-19 free," promised Mr. Saburi.

The Deputy Governor is currently being faced with a case in court, where the government pointed an accusing finger to him for exposing the public to the COVID-19 threat knowingly.

This was when he failed to self-quarantine upon his return from Germany in Mid-March. He was arrested on April 3 after being discharged from hospital and where he was later arraigned in court.

Saburi has, on several occasions, asked the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KeMRI) to produce evidence about his test results, as he maintains that he never contracted the disease.

Kilifi County boss expressed his joy that his deputy was back to work. Kilifi was the pioneer county in the coastal belt to report the COVID-19 case, causing a lot of panic and fears among residents.

However, the county was recently declared COVID-19 following discharge for all patients admitted in various isolation centres.
