49 branches to participate in Kenya volleyball federation elections

The 49 devolved units passed by Kenya Volleyball Federation General Assembly to replace the 14 old branches are the ones to take part in fresh elections this year.

This will be after they are duly registered and approved by Sports Registrar as per the 2013 Sports Act.

The units aligned to the current counties system are set to address and guide the national volleyball federation on new administrative measures before and after elections.

The New development has seen the sub counties turned into sub branches and the counties into branches where the branches will be allowed to produce three elected officials who will take part in the national polls under the New Sports Act.

Since Kenya Volleyball Federation is determined to adhere to the 2013 Sports Act, just like other national sporting federations, Organizing Secretary said it was the reason they had they had extended the term of the current office bearers twice.

"These two extensions were made for us to adhere to the Sports Act, which made us come up with a new constitution to conform with the law,"Chege told Standard Sports.

Off all the 49 proposed branches, the federation only requires approval of 24 counties (branches) by the Sports Registrar for elections to proceed.

"Once we achieve that, then we are good to go since we'll be in good books with the government in readiness for the polls," said Chege.

The term of incumbent officials expired in July last year but was extended twice due to these technicalities.

All officials of national federations have a maximum two four-year-term and most of these officials have completed theirs and will be going for new posts.

The last extension was effected on January 28 when the KVF General Assembly extended the term of the current officials by 90 days.

In the meantime, Chege confirmed he'll seek to be elected the New Secretary General to replace Ben Juma who'll not seek another post as most of the incumbent officials.

Three candidates are seeking to replace outgoing President Waithaka Kioni. They are current First Vice President Charles Nyaberi, Second Vice President David Kilundo and former treasurer Edward Lusaka.

National head coach Paul Bitok has set his eyes on First Vice President's post as outgoing treasurer Kenneth Tonui seeks to be elected the Second Vice President.
