He pandemic has seen the rise and success of female entrepreneurs within the fashion industry like Delvin Nyagucha, the creative director of Delvin’s Closet, a Kenyan based fashion brand that is keen on diversifying its client’s closets one look at a time.
She describes her brand as a collection of unique pieces that combine everyday wear and luxurious pieces. She speaks to us on her aspirations for the coming year, her biggest milestone in 2021 and more.
What was the inspiration behind your brand?
I had a background in modeling, which entailed showcasing beautiful designs and as a result, this naturally drew me closer to fashion.
I am also a creative person, so being able combine my creativity and fashion sense into a brand was ideal for me.

What has been the toughest challenge you have faced in the past year when it comes to running a business?
I would say getting the right team with the same zeal to push the brand. Additionally, the availability of affordable materials locally to bring my concepts to life forces us to outsource internationally, which can be quite expensive!
What has been the biggest milestone you have achieved thus far?
Firstly, getting to work with experts within the fashion industry, like Brian Babu to dress celebrities such as Amina Abdi Rabar. Moreover, the ability to grow my brand by serving clients both locally and internationally.
What advise would you give to young women looking to get into the industry?
Be authentic! There’s always room for you, your creativity is needed in this industry. Lastly, start with what you can at the moment, even if it is thrifted. Just go for it!
Lastly, what business growth would you like to achieve in the next five years?
To be a haute couture fashion line with pieces that are worn both locally and internationally and to have in store ready to wear pieces for day to day street fashion.
