Tech firm Kocela wins banking, technology award

Local financial and technology firm Kocela has been named the best Payments and Transfer Company in Africa at the African Fintech Awards.
The award recognises innovative and disruptive FinTech companies across the continent. During this year event, more than 6,000 finance professionals and 500 handpicked entrepreneurs, bankers and investors met, with the aim of growing networks, extending knowledge and developing business.
"We have always taken a user-focused approach in building disruptive solutions for Africa. It was great to see out efforts recognised at such a global stage," said Kocela chief executive Abel Masai.
The African Fintech Awards forms an integrated part of Finance Indaba Africa, which is one of the largest conferences and expos for finance professionals in Africa.
Kocela, a newcomer to the African Fintech Awards, triumphed over veterans and powerhouses like Cellulant, thathad won the award last year.

The firm is behind major innovative products used by companies across different sectors to offer interactive products to their customers. Kocela’s products are used by thousands of people daily and include KCB Mobile Banking Application, Standard Media Group, Radio Africa, The Star, Safaricom, Spire Bank, HF Bank and Credit Bank.
Kocela was one of the first companies in the region to start building apps for smartphone users and have consistently set the pace in the mobile application space.
