Ecobank Kenya has donated medical equipment worth $20,000 (Sh2 million) to the maternity ward of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi.
The donation is part of activities marking Ecobank Day - the bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility activity. The equipment included incubators, weight and height scales, blood pressure machines and examination couches.
During Ecobank Day, staff across Africa devote their time and resources to projects that aim to transform lives in host communities. This year’s activities focused on maternal health.
Every day, approximately 830 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, according to the World Health Organisation. A majority of these maternal deaths occur in developing countries such as Kenya.
