Nairobi to get new roads to end snarl-ups

A roads agency is set to construct roads in a bid to ease traffic in Nairobi City.

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) yesterday said in a statement it had awarded contracts for the construction of Waiyaki-Red Hill link road and Ngong Road (Lang’ata Link).

H Young & Co won the contract and is set to start works on the new Sh2.1 billion road linking Ngong Road to Lang’ata Police Station Road through Kibra and NHC Lang’ata Estate in March this year.

Kura acting Director General Silas Kinoti said the roads would ease traffic jams on Lang’ata Road and other roads in Nairobi.

“The authority has awarded contracts meant to decongest the city and are due to start in March,” said Mr Kinoti.

Witts Engineering Consultancy Limited would provide supervisory and consultancy services.

And the Waiyaki Way-Red Hill link road has been awarded to China Wu Yi Company with Apec Consortium undertaking supervisory services at the cost of Sh3 million.

The National Treasury will fund the project, which is expected to take two years.
