NAIROBI,KENYA: Mobile phone service provider Safaricom has blocked 1.3 million more unregistered subscribers bringing to 2.5 million the total number of SIM cards suspended since January.
Safaricom announced on Thursday that the latest suspension was the final phase as the company complies with registration rules.
“We have made SIM card registration a priority for the business because of the positive impact it is expected to have in assisting law enforcement agencies in the task of curbing social vices like fraud, terrorism and election related hate messages,” said Safaricom’s Corporate Affairs Director Nzioka Waita.
He said failure to comply with the regulations by mobile phone service providers would expose Kenyans to fraud and criminal activities.
