A traffic police officer was injured in a violent road rage incident over the weekend, along the Narok-Maai Mahiu Road in the Pinyiny area.

Constable Rashid Mungai, stationed at the Ntulele Traffic Base, was conducting a speed check around 4:06 p.m on Saturday when a Mercedes Benz suddenly pulled over.

According to a report recorded at the Ntulele Police Station -Occurrence Book No, 28/10/05/2025, four men exited the vehicle and confronted the officer.

One of the men believed to be the driver of the vehicle, punched Mungai in the face during a heated exchange.

The situation escalated quickly and the group began pelting stones at the officer.

Narok police commander Riko Ngare said Constable Geoffrey Wangila and a passerby came to the rescue of Mungai, forcing the attackers to speed off towards Maai Mahiu.

Ngare said police pursued the men who made a U-turn at Ntulele Market after noticing a roadblock before veering onto a dirt road towards Mosiro.

"The chase ended in the Nturumeti area when the suspects' vehicle broke down due to mechanical failure, as the high-speed vehicle suffered extensive damage from the poor road condition," he said.

Three suspects were apprehended by DCI officers from Narok East while the driver who is believed to have instigated the assault, managed to escape.

Mungai sustained injuries to his face, head, and legs and was treated at the Ntulele Health Centre and discharged.

The impounded vehicle was taken to the Ntulele traffic base for examination as investigations continue.

The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before Narok Law Courts to face assault charges.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect who fled.
