The Finance Bill 2025 has been referred to the Finance and National Planning Committee for consideration before the House resumes from recess.

In a notification by the National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula on Monday, the clerk has been directed to notify all members of the priority bill.

"The Finance Bill now stands referred to the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning for consideration. The Committee is to expeditiously consider the Bill and submit its report upon resumption of regular sittings of the House," stated Wetangula.

This follows a motion passed by the House on February 13 noting that when a published bill becomes due for first reading when the members are on recess, then the speaker shall mark it as a priority before referring it to the relevant committee.

The Bill will be reported to the House upon resumption and be read for the first time as soon as it is practicable.

The Finance Bill 2025 was published on May 6, 2025, proposing to amend the laws relating to various taxes and duties.

Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wa has also requested the Speaker to have the bill included in the list of priority business.

The members will resume from the long recess on May 27, 2025.

Upon resumption of the House, the House Business Committee shall expedite consideration of the finance bill.

The Speaker has further ordered the clerk to facilitate the committee to undertake necessary public participation and necessary activities on the bill.
