Over two hundred players battled at the par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club in Nairobi Friday for the third edition of the annual Fida Kenya Charity Golf Tournament

Chief Justice Martha Koome was among the contestants who graced the event whose aim was to raise at least Sh5 million to establish a Fida-Kenya Mediation Centre to help mitigate and fight Gender Based Violence among other issues.

The other aim of the showpiece was to celebrate International Women's Day and Fida's 40th Anniversary.

Though she was not in terrific form, Koome said she had to come out to support the cause and be in solidarity with the organisation.

"Spiritually I'm okay, but not sure if I'm in amazing physical form. This is because I have not been on the course for a while due to job engagements, but nonetheless, I had to come and celebrate with Fida," Koome told The Standard during her tee-off.

"I comprehensively associate myself with objectives of Fida, in terms of women empowerment and breaking the barriers of inequality and gender discrimination," she added.

Standard Group PLC Chief Executive Officer Marion Gathoga-Mwangi, who was in the same 7am batch with Koome, had high hopes to play better and return a good score card at the end of the round.

"I prepared well for this tournament, especially now that I was going to contest alongside the Chief Justice, a woman leader who I support.

"Today, I feel my body is in shape, I aim to play better than my handicap 23," Gathoga-Mwangi said as she combed the greens.

Gathoga-Mwangi urged women to come out and support one another, especially in this era of women leadership. She also hailed the men who are in support of Fida causes and activities.
