Dagoretti South MP John 'KJ' Kiarie has called for a thorough investigation into the death of Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joel Munuve, describing it as "curious."

Speaking before the National Assembly on Thursday, April 24, Kiarie highlighted Munuve's recent efforts to address corruption and inefficiencies at City Hall, noting that just days before his death, Munuve had initiated an impeachment push against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

"The death of Honourable Joel Munuve is a curious death, especially at a time when he was raising very pertinent issues about leadership in City Hall," Kiarie said.

"He had dared to collect signatures for the impeachment of the governor and planned to reveal very damning information."

Kiarie urged investigative authorities to probe the circumstances surrounding Munuve's death, stressing that the matter might have high-level implications.

He added that while no blame should be placed prematurely, the investigation must be thorough and leave no stone unturned.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, in his tribute, praised Munuve for his dedication and service, describing him as a passionate servant of the people.

"His voice in the Nairobi County Assembly was firm and always grounded in the pursuit of better service delivery and dignity for the people of Kariobangi North," Sakaja said.

Munuve's death occurred on April 22, after he had complained of pain while being driven to the hospital.

The cause of death remains unconfirmed.

Nairobi County Assembly members, including Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, have also called for clarity on the issue.

A post-mortem examination on Munuve's body is scheduled for Friday, April 25.

Lawyer Danstan Omari, speaking on behalf of Munuve's family, confirmed that the autopsy would proceed after a meeting between family pathologists, the county government, and investigators.
